Toru Kanayama

Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1960. Played trumpet and euphonium in elementary school brass band, and clarinet in junior high and high school wind bands. After graduating from Musashino Academia Musicae, participated in musical productions, concerts, live performances, and recordings as a multi-reed and keyboard player. As a composer and arranger, he has also participated in many artists' concerts and albums, including 20th Century (V6), Kinki Kids, Hikaru Genji, and Shonentai.
His works mainly focus on pops for wind bands and wind instruments, and he has published works through Easter Music Publishing, Wind Art Publishing, Winds Score, Nexus Music Publishing, Foster Music, Brain (Bravo Music), Bell Music Press, Molenaar Edition (Netherlands), Yamaha Music Media, and Rocket Music (in alphabetical order). He has also composed and arranged many pieces for recordings, competitions, concerts, stage productions, and films. He has provided arrangements and compositions to organizations such as the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, Siena Wind Orchestra, Koedo Wind Ensemble, Blitz Philharmonic Winds (Blitz Brass), Tokyo Elements (woodwind quintet), Soai University Wind Orchestra, Soai Clarinet Orchestra, and Ryukoku University Wind Band. In recent years, he has also provided arrangements to Taiwan and China.
He studied clarinet with Kunio Chiba, Yuji Murai, Shingo Kashino, and Kazuo Nishimura. He studied composition with Kazuhide Ikeda and Satoru Ikeda, but is largely self-taught.
