Funamoto Takahiro

I became interested in classical music in junior high school, and at the age of 15, I began to study music on my own, starting with how to read sheet music. After enrolling in Osaka Prefectural Suita Higashi High School, I joined the brass band and played the horn. At the same time, I started playing the piano and also began composing and arranging on my own. I graduated from the Music Production Course (formerly Composition Course) of the Department of Music at Osaka University of Arts. Upon graduation, I received the Chancellor's Award (Best Graduation Work Award). I studied composition under Masaju Fujishima, Michiharu Matsunaga, and Fumio Nakatani. Since 2010, I have studied conducting under Yoshio Saida. I was a finalist in the 17th Asahi Composition Award (public call for competition pieces for the 2007 All-Japan Band Competition). My work was selected for the 11th "Kyōen" of 21st Century Wind Music. In 2012, I invited wind and percussion players to perform my solo exhibition of orchestral works. I have held three solo exhibitions to date.
