《Sonatine》 is a three-movement piano piece written for a composition competition, and it is also the piece that brought Ravel widespread recognition. A sonatine, also called a sonatina, is typically shorter and technically easier than a sonata, but this particular piece requires a high level of performance skill. I hope you will play this piece by creating a cohesive flow while paying attention to breathing, even in sections without explicit tempo indications such as rit. or a tempo. Please also keep in mind that the original piece was for piano when considering note values. Additionally, please balance your playing so that the melody does not get buried.
For the Flûte alto en Sol et 4e Grande Flûte part, the 1st and 2nd movements can be played on alto flute (in G) or flute. If playing on flute, a B natural will be used, including in the 3rd movement. If playing with a C-foot joint flute or if playing a B natural is difficult, please follow the notes and performance indications in the lower staff or in parentheses. For dotted slurs in the 1st movement when playing on flute, it is very difficult fingering-wise to play with a dotted slur using a B natural, but please be mindful of the dotted phrase and play while coordinating well with the 1er Grande Flûte.
