The Girl with the Flaxen Hair [Brass Quintet]

　"La fille aux cheveux de lin" is the eighth piece in "Préludes, Book 1." There are 24 preludes in total, divided into "Préludes, Book 1" and "Préludes, Book 2," each containing 12 pieces. It is one of Debussy's important late works. It is a short piece, lasting about three minutes, and is often performed individually. The title is borrowed from Leconte de Lisle's poem of the same name.
　In the original "Préludes," the titles are intentionally placed at the end of each score, followed by an ellipsis "..." This placement at the end indicates that the title is secondary.
　The original work was first performed by Debussy himself in May 1910. The following month, he met Igor Stravinsky and Erik Satie. It is believed that 1910 was an important year for Debussy.
　Unlike other works in the collection, this piece has a clear tonality (G-flat major). It is improvisational, characterized by warm harmonies throughout. (Yuto Yamada)
